Throughout December 2021, members of both Lydney Town and Lydney Training Bands took part in community carolling around the town. The mixed ensembles played in seven locations around Lydney including outside three residential homes on one evening, Bishops Mead (Lydney’s newest estate) and for the first time, Lydney Tesco. We also took part in a live Nativity, organised by the Salvation Army, around the village of Ruardean (donkeys included!) and a small contingent of players entertained the revellers of Shirenewton. All the money raised will go towards replenishing funds expended on the roof repairs carried out earlier in 2021.
Lydney Town Band gave their first Christmas concert in over 15 years at the Mount of Olives Church, Coleford. In the intervening time the Training Band has represented us at Christmas in Lydney and around the Forest. Thanks to the hard work of all involved, we were able to put on a fantastic performance. The concert featured traditional carols, as well as the wonderfully exciting Sleigh Ride and fabulous solo from principal cornet Kerry Ford: The Christmas Song.
Lydney Training Band and choirs from three local schools helped kick the festive season off at the Light Up Lydney event in Lydney Town Hall. Conductor Kevin Ford was on fine form, conducting not only the Training Band but also the choirs and the assembled audience in a range of carols.
