Lydney Band Achievement Awards

Last night we celebrated an incredible twelve months of progress and success at our Annual Achievement Awards, held at Watney Hall, Lydney. Band Chairman, Kevin Ford, opened proceedings welcoming members of the Starter Group, Training Band and Town Band with a recap of what each ensemble had achieved over the last year before moving onto the awards!

The band's newest members in the Starter Group and Training Band received achievement certificates recognising the hard work and progress before we moved onto the Training Band awards. The winners were:

• Most Promise Award: Rylan (cornet)
• Most Improved Starter Group Player: Etta (cornet)
• Most Improved Training Band Player: George (baritone)
• Tutors Award: Evie Walton (horn)
• Player's Player Award: Jessica Waskett (horn)
• Conductor's Award: Ruth McKechnie and Emma Simpson (both: cornet)
• Section of the Year: 3rd Cornets
• Musician of the Year: Tim Ford and Jessica Waskett (both: horn)​
  

Next up, the Town Band Musical Director, Thomas Dunne, presented the Town Band Awards, including a new award for this year - Bandsman of the Year. The winners were:

• Most Improved Town Band Player: Herbie (cornet)
• Bandsman of the Year: Mark Phifer (cornet)
• Section of the Year: Percussion
• Player's Player Award: Kerry Ford (cornet)
• Musician of the Year: Kerry Ford (cornet)

The evening was capped off by the annual band skittles tournament, this year won by Rebecca, and a raffle overseen by Kevin and one of the Training Band's youngest members: Rhys!
