Congratulations to Mark, Rory and Joe who completed the Portishead 10k this morning!
There’s still time to sponsor Rory and Mark in aid of funding new instruments for the band, head over to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/LydneyTownBand-2024 If you’d prefer to donate offline, get in touch! Thanks to the organisers and marshalls for a brilliantly organised and well run event! There’s just 30 days to go until our 2024 Celebration Concert being held in Lydney Town Hall on Saturday 19th October! It promises to be an absolutely cracking evening, showcasing the plethora of talents in both the Town and Training Bands. Pop it in your diary, write it on the calendar, stick a post-it note on the fridge - it would be wonderful to see you there
Unfortunately, despite the band's best efforts on stage we were unable to secure a top six place finish. Enormous congratulations to Golborne Brass Band on winning the Third Section of National Brass Championships of Great Britain. In addition, we would like to also offer our congratulations to Lydbrook Band who came second in the First Section!
Here's a few "behind the scenes" photos from the day... Today, we're competing in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for the first time since 2016 and the tenth time in the band's history! This time we'll be performing Shipbuilders, which the band actually also performed in the Third Section at the National Championships in 1973 (when we came 9th!). The very best of luck to all of the band's competing in today's contest across the sections, particularly our fellow West of England bands: Verwood and Nailsworth Silver Band in the Third Section and our fellow Forest band, Lydbrook Band in the First Section!
The Band enjoyed a lovely name check in 4barsrest's preview of this weekend's Third Section at the National Brass Band Championships: https://www.4barsrest.com/articles/2024/2074.asp
It was absolutely lovely to have Ben Hannaford-Waddington visit the Training Band for one last rehearsal, “back where it all began”, before he joins the Royal Marines later this month! We wish him all the very best as he begins the next chapter and can’t thank him enough for everything he has contributed to the Training and Town Bands, both as a musician and a mentor, bringing a positive, absolute can-do attitude to every situation
Following Kerry, Dougie and Tim’s incredible efforts in the Severn Bridge 10k over the recent Bank Holiday Weekend, later this month two of our front row cornet team: Rory and Mark, will be taking part in the Portishead 10k!
In the run-up to the Severn Bridge 10k, we were able to hit our target of £400 so we’ve set ourselves a new one of £600! If you’ve donated so far, thank you so much! If you still want to, every donation is appreciated. You can do it online: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/LydneyTownBand-2024 or get in touch if you’d prefer to donate through other means! Next month, on Sunday 6th October, Lydney Training Band will be returning to the Forest Showcase Food Festival. It’s always a fabulous event with an enormous range of food and craft stalls and as a bonus: the Forest will be in its full autumnal mode, so you can tag on a wander in the woods!
