Enormous congratulations to Kerry, Dougie and Tim for completing the Severn Bridge 10k this morning!!! There’s still loads of time to contribute to our fundraiser: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/LydneyTownBand-2024 which is going to help fund new instruments for the Training Band! Many thanks to the organisers for a great event
On Saturday 19th October, we will be holding our annual Celebration Concert at Lydney Town Hall!
This will be an incredible opportunity to see both Lydney Town Band and Lydney Training Band performing, showcasing the wealth of talent that exists within the two bands! The evening will climax with a massed band finale. As well as the musical entertainment, there will also be a raffle and the Town Hall bar will be open. It promises to be a great night and we would love to see you there! Tickets are £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, payable on the door (cash or card accepted) This weekend, Kerry and Tim, who sit as Principal Cornet and 2nd Horn in Lydney Town Band, will be taking on the Severn Bridge 10k! If you would like to support for them in their fundraising efforts for the band, head on over to: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/LydneyTownBand-2024.
We’ve also had some very generous donations both online and offline, including a tremendous one from Stanstawe Engineering Consultants Ltd, who commented: “Stanshawe Engineering are more than happy to support Lydney Training Band with a drive to raise funds to help replace ageing instruments. There are many village and town bands that run junior or beginner bands that provide an instrument, training, and musical development of our youngsters. These bands do a wonderful job in bringing on the next generation of brass players. Long may it continue!" Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to perform at Highnam Court at the presentation of the King’s Coronation Medal to the volunteers who help run the Gloucestershire Army Cadets. Many thanks to David for standing in as conductor for the day and to Barry for helping out on Solo Horn!
On Wednesday evening, prior to the lower brass sectional, our Principal Tenor Horn Samantha Ford hosted a Tenor Horn workshop for players from the Town and Training Bands! If you’ve seen us out and about there’s a very good chance that you’ll have seen Samantha leading our Tenor Horn team and you might have even been lucky enough to hear her perform one of her fabulous solos. Did you know…
Samantha started playing at the age of 10 and is a Lydney Training Band alumna. She has worked her way up the positions, playing Solo Horn in Lydney Town Band for 10 years (holding the position when we last qualified for the National Championships in 2016!) and spending three years playing for Filton Concert Brass in the Championship Section on 1st Horn. Samantha has had various tutors over the years including Kerry Ford, Owen Farr, Thomas Dunne, and Ross Dunne. When she was 15, Samantha achieved her Grade 8, almost getting full marks for good measure! Samantha also played in the National Youth Brass Band of Wales for five years and represented Wales in the European Youth Brass Band 2017. She also won Best Soloist at the 2022 Wychavon Festival of Brass for her superb rendition of Over The Rainbow! The National Championships are just under a month away…and last night it was the sectional turn of our brilliant lower brass team!
Last August, we swapped band ties from runners bibs when a team from the band ran the Severn Bridge 10k, raising over £1000 to help fund our fabulous outdoor storage unit. This year, the team is back at it, taking on the Severn Bridge 10k (Sunday 25th August) *and* the Portishead 10k (Sunday 29th September) and they’re looking for your support!
Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping the band to continue its work in developing the next generation of brass players through the Training Band https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/LydneyTownBand-2024 Yesterday evening, we held our first sectional in advance of our performance of Shipbuilders at next month's National Championships with Tom put the cornet team through their paces
